Organiser Statement

The organisers of the 2020 Heineken® 0.0 IMPI Challenge, one of SA’s most iconic obstacle course races, have announced that the first event of the series that was scheduled to take place at Coetzenburg, Stellenbosch (Western Cape) on Saturday 23 May 2020 has been postponed until further notice.

President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed (on Monday 23 March in his second address to the Nation) that over the past week the global crisis (referring to the COVID-19 pandemic) has deepened prompting the South African government to urgently escalate its response (which is in line with the terms of the Disaster Management Act).  The fundamental task is to contain the spread of the disease.

“Cancelling or postponing an event is not an easy decision,” says Pieter du Plessis, Heineken® 0.0 IMPI Challenge Race Director.  “As organisers it is our responsibility to review all possible options available, but for now our duty is to play our part in curbing the spread of the virus.  The health and safety of all South Africans is paramount.  Our goal is to reschedule the event in the 2020 calendar.  We are happy to announce that all entrants that have paid and entered will receive a full refund for the IMPI Challenge #1, with refund payments to be made within the next two weeks.  We will review and provide more information on the way forward at a later stage depending on the status of the virus in the country at the time.”
